I haven’t heard of a Senior Moving Planner before. What do they do?

Senior Moving Planners are professionals who help older adults and their families with relocation, downsizing, and rightsizing. This might mean helping you or your loved one move from a long-time home to a smaller place or helping someone who wants to stay where they are but needs help deciding what to do with possessions and other items they no longer need.

​Senior Moving Planners understand that moving can be a very stressful and emotional experience, particularly for older adults who may not have anyone to help them, who have lived in the same house for many years or who are ill or bereaved. We bring compassion, empathy, kindness and discretion as well as a great deal of experience to make the enormous task of moving as simple and stress free as possible.

What makes The Moving Planners different to other moving companies?

The simple answer is that we are not a traditional removalist company. We will tailor your move to suit your circumstances. For example, you might like help with sorting through your belongings so you can decide what to take with you and what you may no longer need. You might like us to help create a furniture placement plan for your new home so you know which of your belongings will fit. You might even like us to help with hanging photographs and artwork in your new home!

Where do The Moving Planners operate?

We work in Brisbane and surrounding areas. However, in special circumstances, we may be able to assist you in other locations within Australia.

How does the process work?

When you contact The Moving Planners, you will speak with one of our dedicated Senior Move Planners. We will arrange a time to meet with you to understand your needs. This meeting is free of charge and there is absolutely no obligation to use our services.

Once we have an understanding of your needs, we can develop a series of options for you to consider. When you have decided which options best suit you, we will then begin to co-ordinate your move, make arrangements with service providers including movers, insurers, tradespeople, real estate agents and more. We will act as your one point of contact for your move.

Do I need to pay for the initial consultation?

Heavens no! We are happy to meet with you free of charge to chat about your specific needs. It also gives you the opportunity to get to know us a little better. We want you to feel comfortable and safe with us.

How do The Moving Planners ensure my safety?

It is a normal emotion to not feel comfortable with strangers entering your home. All staff from The Moving Planners will arrive at your home in uniform, with photo identification that will be shown without request before we enter your house. Our staff have all undergone a Police Check to provide you with added confidence. Our priority is for you to feel comfortable and safe.

How much do your services cost?

That is a little hard to say as each move is different and the amount of assistance each client would like varies. Once we have a better understanding of what is involved with your move, we will provide you with a fee estimate. This will give you the information you need to choose which services you would like.

How do I get ready for my move?

Your dedicated Senior Move Planner will work with you to develop a plan, outlining each step to be taken.

How many people will I need to deal with?

Your dedicated Senior Move Planner will act as your single point of contact to co-ordinate all aspects of your moving plan. We will arrange quotes from the different companies which need to be involved in your move including removalists, real estate agents, tradespeople, etc. You can then decide which quote you wish to accept. After those decisions are made, we will co-ordinate everyone involved in your move so you can relax.

I’ve lived in my home for years. How do I decide what to bring with me?

Our Senior Moving Planners will prepare a floor plan for your new home and work with you to decide what items you wish to keep and what will realistically fit.

I need to downsize. Can you help me?

Yes! Our Senior Move Planners are specialists in this area. Deciding which of your precious belongings to keep and which to let go of can be hard. Your dedicated Senior Moving Planner will help by providing objective advice and practical solutions to keep memories of your treasures, without always needing to hold on to the actual item.

How early do we need to begin the process?

It’s never too early to get your free consultation to ease any concerns you have about the move and decide what you would like us to help you with.

Can I pack some of my own things?

Absolutely. Remember, however, that boxes get stacked in the moving truck, so a good packing job with the right supplies is important. You are responsible for the items in the boxes you pack.

Do you recommend I take out insurance for my move?

Yes. While insurance is an added cost, we believe purchasing moving insurance (if not already covered by your existing policies) can provide extra surety and peace of mind in respect of your move. Please note that The Moving Planners holds public liability insurance and absolute care is taken when handling your personal belongings.
